Lynn England Alexander, a 20-year resident of Smyrna, has announced her candidacy for Smyrna Town Judge.

“The citizens of Smyrna are paying for a full-time judge.  They deserve a judge who will open court more than two days a week. They also deserve a judge who brings experience to the bench,” said Alexander, who has served as an Administrative Judge for the State of Tennessee since 2001.

As administrative judge, Alexander hears regulatory disputes involving citizens and state agencies for more than 70 state and local agencies, including the Department of Finance and Administration, the Department of Commerce and Insurance, the Department of Health, and the Department of Safety and Homeland Security.

Alexander also presides over numerous regulatory board hearings, including the Board of Medical Examiners, the Board of Nursing, the Real Estate Commission, the Accountancy Board and the Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

Additionally, Alexander regularly conducts hearings and mediations for the City of Nashville, the City of Chattanooga, and Due Process hearings for the Department of Education’s Special Education Division.

A 1987 graduate of the Nashville School of Law, Alexander joined her alma mater in 2008 as a faculty instructor in Administrative Law. She received her undergraduate degree from Middle Tennessee State University. Alexander is a Rule 31 Trained Civil and Family Law Mediator. She has also received specialty training in Special Education and handling high volume dockets.

“I am prepared to bring my many years of judicial experience home to Smyrna to operate a timely, efficient and fair court,” Alexander said.

Alexander is a member of the National Association of Administrative Law Judges and the Rutherford Cannon County Bar Association. She is a frequent speaker before both the Tennessee and Nashville Bar Associations in Administrative Law, Ethics and Mediation.

Alexander has volunteered as an adult literacy tutor for Read to Succeed since 2011, a regional and state competition DECA judge for Tennessee high schools since 2004, and a judge of high school and college Moot Court competitions. She is also a community member of the Smyrna Independent Merchants Association. “I believe in the importance of public service to my community,” Alexander said.
